Rick Ross at the Accra International Conference Centre
American Hip hop heavy weight and The Source Magazines’ 2010 Man of the Year, Rick Ross rocked the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre Tuesday night, December 28, at what was arguably the most highly anticipated concert to hit the country. Flanked by his Maybach Music team, Masspike Miles and Torch, the Teflon Don, as he is affectionately called, was just an unstoppable machine fulfilling the hype the show has received.
The man, born William Leonard Roberts II, was making his first appearance in Ghana and clearly, he loved every bit of it – he was instantly hit by the unquenchable energy from both the stage and a possessed crowd.
With a wide smile that showed he was deeply grateful to be in Ghana, the Boss was already rocking and was doing what he knows how to do best.
His presence drove the audience into a different realm, the result being an instant stampede as many wanted to catch a glimpse of the Hip hop maestro.
At that moment everybody was up standing, some standing on their ‘needless’ seats, with a sea of fans converging around the stage.
The Boss proved why he is the Teflon Don
Caught by the wild cheers, Rick Ross, who donned a white T-Shirt with a diamond crusted watch and necklace (bling-bling) at the first half of the show, was swift to work, dishing out well-known hits that cemented his name in the hearts of many.
He performed tracks like Hustlin, Push It, Magnificent, Here I am, Boss, and clearly, the show wouldn’t have been complete without the main song for the tour Blow Money Fast Tour, Blow Money Fast performing it twice noticing that the crowd was down with the song; in fact the crowd took over from him rapping as if the song was theirs.
The total mastery with which Rick Ross performed, changing from one track to the other and his connection with the audience, clearly proved why he is one of the best in the world music industry.
Due to travel arrangements, the Teflon Don only rocked the stage for about an hour and man, he really rocked! Without a doubt, he left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of many.
The night wasn’t only about Rick Ross, other Ghanaian giants; Sarkordie, Asem, Kwaw Kese, Trigmatic, D-Black and Tinny also took turns to keep the crowd dancing all night long.
Obour completes two new music videos for 2011
Obour, one of the many old hiplifers targeting major dominance next Easter has completed videos for two singles- the controversial 'Wahala' aka 'Where the Money Go Dey' and the Hi Certified (HCF) future hit, 'Single Ladies'. Both songs will be on his upcoming fifth solo album expected to hit the market by Independence Day. 'Wahala' video was shot inside the TV Africa studios and directed by Nana Asihene of NKACC Ghana. The video sees Nana Asihene creatively playing with loads of still photos; and there are even more loads of cash splashed in this video.
Wahala asks a serious question about the seemingly shortage of cash in the system. Not only Obour; lots of ordinary people are asking same question in video- the doctor, shoe maker, hiplifer, bank manager, trotro driver, etc.
Another extremely promising young director, KAT (real name: Mike Siaw) of Video Multimedia, is the brain behind the second vid, Single Ladies, a song Obour gracefully dedicates to single ladies who are planning to get attached soon. Guess the maverick lyricist is now directing his attention to the 'gals'.
No doubt in this video, which is expected to be released at two niteclub parties in Accra and Tema on Valentine's weekend (see Obour Releases New Single on Vals Day), we see four pretty party-girls cruising and bouncing around town in a plush Benz convertible and announcing that they are 'singles and ready to mingle'.
'Wahala' video will hit TV on high rotation by January1, 2011. Here, we bring you exclusive photos from both shoots. For more info about Obour, visit http://www.obour.com.
VIP Member caught in an erotic position with Jasmine
Heavyweight hiplife trio - Vision In Progress (VIP)- has denied that one of its members, Prodigal, was last Friday caught in an erotic position with someone’s girlfriend at Zenith University College in Accra.
Reports say Prodigal, known in private life as Joseph Nana Ofori, was with the pretty-faced Jasmine Seyram Akortsu, winner of Face of Tertiary 2009, when her boyfriend banged into the room and started raising hell. The guy, whose name was simply given as Felix, was said to have got angry and physically assaulted Jasmine, while Prodigal tried to separate the two.
A source at the La District Police Station told ‘News One’ that the case was reported last Friday evening and both Felix and Jasmine were detained briefly.
Te police source added that though Prodigal’s name came up in the case, it could not be confirmed that he was dating Jasmine or that the two were caught in the erotic position. ‘News One’ gathered that after Felix assaulted Jasmine, he also seized her car keys to prevent her from leaving campus as he raised an alarm to gather more students to witness the scene.
He however gave the car keys to a friend who handed it over to Jasmine and just when she was about to drive out of the school, Felix was reported to have stood in front of the car, daring her to move. “It was like a Hollywood movie.
Jasmine moved the car with such speed that if the guy had had not jumped, he would have died. But he hanged on to the bonnet and she kept driving till she moved out of campus and turned left heading towards Formula 1 Race way while the guy was still hanging on to the bonnet. “What saved the situation was that there was a Police Checkpoint on the road and she was forced to stop.
So the two were taken to the police station and locked up,” a student eyewitness source told ‘News One’.
Duke Banson, the man in charge of VIP, has explained the circumstances under which prodigal was at Zenith College on Friday. He said Prodigal was no stranger to Zenith College University and that he had several friends and acquaintances there including Jasmine.
Duke however denied that Prodigal was in the school specifically because of Jasmine. He said VIP did not chase or fight over girls and that and that they had what it took to go in for any single girl.
The issue has become the main subject on the Zenith University College Face bookers Lounge, with various students posting comments either in favour of Jasmine or Felix.

“My fans, forgive me I will crack jokes no more” - Sarkodie
The current king of Ghanaian rap Sarkodie has apologized to his numerous fans over some remarks he made last week which have given him a lot of bad press.
The Konvict Africa rapper who made a statement at a press conference in Accra that “People listen to him more than, the president of Ghana, John Evan Atta Mills”, said he meant it as a joke and not as the media and the public have sought to explain.
Speaking on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review” programme, Sarkodie made reference to a statement someone made to him during this year Ghana Music Awards, that if he wins the “Artiste of the year” award he would face a lot of problems “I made a funny statement with smiles on my face that people listen to me more than the president himself.
That is Sarkodie’s sense of humour and I thought anyone who hears this will laugh but Ghanaians and the media have intrepreted it wrongly”, he said. He said.
He expressed shock at how his humorous statement has been blown out of proportion and wondered why no media man asked for further classification. “If they thought it was wrong someone should have questioned me on that, but nobody said anything during and after the press conference. I only heard people discussing me on radio on my way home”, he stressed.
The public outcry has pushed Sarkodie to release a new single track title “Sorry”. He used chorus from Akon “I tried so hard” and rapped along with it. The song’s intro goes like this: “This is a letter to my fans, I just wonna show you that I love you all. My fans please forgive me I will crack jokes no more”.
Touching on media report that he snubbed the organizers of the Ghana Music Awards, at the MUSIGA headquarters on Tuesday May18, 2010 when Charter House was presenting cash prizes to the GMA 2010 winner. Sarkodie denied to have snubbed that he refused to receive his GH¢4000 cash prize until Theresa of Charter House intervened.
“What happened is that, I was there with my management when I had a call so I went out to receive the call and told Dr. Duncan to receive the cheque on my behalf, not knowing that my name had been mentioned several times. They refused to present it to my manager, Dr. Duncan because Theresa said since I was there it will be a privilege to present it to me in person”, he explained.
According to ‘Obedeponbede’ since he won five awards at this year’s Ghana Music Awards, people always try to find fault with whatever he does and says. He dismissed reports that arrogant and snobbish.
“This is the mentality and perception of some Ghana which kills a lot of budding artistes. I am not arrogant; I speak with confidence and humor. The people who smile with me are the same people trying to bring me down”, he said with so much emotions.
Akatakyie bounces back to hit at Government
Music duo, Akatakyie, made up of Prince Kwabena Budu Asumaning (Kobby Culture) and Ebenezer Kwasi Okyere Asumaning (King Pharaoh) who have been away from the music industry for some time now have resurfaced, pointing accusing fingers at the government for neglecting the music industry.
The duo, who are siblings, speaking on Day Break Hitz on Hitz FM with Lexis Bill Wednesday expressed their displeasure at the continuous neglect of the industry that feeds most youth in the country.
They said the industry is currently going through at lot of financial challenges and that politicians only remember musicians when it’s time for politics.
“When it is time for politics before politicians will remember musicians. There is nothing coming from the government to support the music of Ghana and it is making the industry hustle along the way, which is not fair.”
Have you heard that they have read the budget and mentioned music in it before? King Pharaoh quizzed, adding, maybe they will talk about culture, “but they will never mention anything music…they don’t even think about anything music.”
The duo said Ghanaian musicians can equally do what their counterparts in Nigerian and the US are doing if only there is maximum support from the government and producers giving musicians the massive push needed.“If you don’t have the finances, how can you produce the music?” they asked.
They therefore called on the government to intervene to resurrect the ailing industry and also help curb the increasing spate of piracy which is a major hindrance to musicians reaping the full benefits of their work.
Akatakyie who happens to be celebrating their 11th year in the music industry attributed their long absence to the change in record labels and management and the fact that they wanted to give Ghanaians what they really want to hear.
The group shot into fame with their rhythm Africa afro hip life style in 1999 with the release of their first album, Ghana Mma. They followed that album with Odo Esikyire, Yede aba and Esi.
They disclosed that they will be launching their new album February 12 next year at the Aphrodisiac Nite Club.
